My Smart Hands with Megan

Instructor

img_8548Megan is one of our newest My Smart Hands instructors, but she is far from unfamiliar with American Sign Language.

Always fascinated by ASL, Megan sought out a private tutor shortly after discovering her cousin’s son was born deaf.  A year of private instruction sparked her love for the unspoken language.  She enrolled in a local American Sign Language program and obtained a degree in ASL and Deaf Studies with honors. It wasn’t long after that she began teaching her own private sessions, a class at the Westfield NJ Adult School, ran programs with the Girl Scouts, and volunteered her interpreting services.

Last year, Megan and her husband welcomed a beautiful baby boy.  Of course, she wanted to share her passion for ASL with him and ultimately other babies.  After all, sign language accelerates verbal development, strengthens cognitive skills, reduces frustration and tantrums, increases self-esteem, and enhances child-caregiver bonding.  While researching several baby sign language programs, she came across My Smart Hands.  It was the one learning model she felt was the best: the most fun, cleverly laid out, and true to the signs of ASL.  She is so excited to educate parents, caregivers and little minds all over and is currently running classes in both Montclair and Paramus, NJ.
